OneNeck launches Cloud Cost Optimization Service

The 2019 State of the Cloud Report by RightScale includes two critical findings: 1) Cost optimization is the top initiative this year, and 2) cloud users are, on average, wasting 35 percent of their cloud spend.

“The dilemma for businesses,” says Jeff Budge, VP of Advisory at OneNeck IT Solutions, “is where to begin. Cloud is complex. Understanding consumption, identifying patterns and then determining how (or where) to optimize is a huge challenge. Working with a credible IT provider, with experience optimizing cloud use can help reduce budget overruns while accounting for wasted cloud spend.”

OneNeck IT Solutions, for instance, has expertise performing cloud cost assessments. Budge added, “We can help clients identify exactly how much they are spending along with providing recommendations on how and where waste can be controlled.”

For example, OneNeck recently helped a client migrate to a new Microsoft Azure platform. The client, according to Budge, leverages a digital content platform to deliver online content to customers across the country. They were looking to understand their cloud spend, improve their ability to chargeback their customers, and continually find ways to optimize their platform.

Following the migration, OneNeck then analyzed the new environment over a handful of months. The ongoing analysis led OneNeck to set up cost allocations (e.g., reporting and dashboards) aimed at improving the client’s visibility into their Azure spend, as well as greater control over their investment. In addition, OneNeck is also implementing automated policies so as the client’s invoice changes, they will receive timely notifications and can investigate the changes real-time.

OneNeck leverages several cloud-optimization tools, including RightScale Optima by Flexera, to analyze cost data across a client’s clouds and cloud services. The company then provides a Cloud Cost Optimization Assessment Report which includes cost-reduction opportunities and recommendations on how to prioritize and realize savings, along with a menu of ongoing cost optimization and management services.
